Here's a landscape shot I took by Auburn, near the 49 bridge crossing. The color version just doesn't speak the way this version speaks.

I typically don't compose shots with B&W in my mind. But once in a while I'll mess with the channel mixer and produce B&W shots. Some really COOL, others not so hot. I'm always blown away by how much personality can be pulled out of a photo using B&W.

Quick note: I used the 10-22mm Canon lens for the landscape shot ... it's a cool lens, a lot lighter than the "L" lenses, but I can definitely see it's weaknesses at times. I feel like it gets picky at certain F stops depending on where your focusing. Plus, it's an EF-S format lens, which means that it is designed for 1.6 crop factor cameras (like the Rebel XT/XTi or 30D). When it comes to landscapes, your packing a ton of pixels into an already small sensor area, so all in all it's doing a good job. (That 10-22mm is effectively 16-35mm on true 35mm format cameras)
