22MP Canon EOS 1Ds MK3!! Could it be true??
Ohhhh baby … this fall is gonna be good, at least I hope it’s gonna be good. If you do a search on “22mp canon”, everybody is rumoring up a storm about the 1Ds MK3 potential release and what could be in store for it’s feature set (1D Mark3’s big brother). First off, a lot of people are saying “a new lens mount” is in the works. Ummmm, why? A 35mm film camera slide can produce a 22mp scan, and that’s using Canon’s L lenses. So why would we need a new set of lenses?? It’s already got the resolution!
Second, Canon is soon going to offer $1,000 rebates when you buy a 1Ds MK2 … you know what that means? There getting rid of stock for the new flagship! Yippee! A 22mp 35mm camera = Picture Capture Heaven. That’s size-able enough to knock Hasselblad in the jewels.
Will I buy one when it’s released? Doubtful, but it’s exciting to think about! Get the latest rumors here at Northlight Images.

Overtake? No. Become a serious competitor? Yes.
The H3D at 22mp will set you back about $21,000. Add another $6000 for a couple of lenses. $27,000 minimum to have a H3D with optical options.
The current canon 1Ds Mk2 sets you back $7000. Add another $4000 for 3 L grade lenses. $11,000 minimum to have a wide set of optical options (16-35, 24-70, 70-200).
It all depends on your end goals and your clients.
